Part 1:
Purpose & Positioning
"To decide the location of light sources, one should identify the purpose of the room and the activities likely to take place in it. One should  also think of desired ambient quality before conceptualizing lighting plan. For example, a living room meant for intimate family conversations and lounging would need warm lighting. However, a room used for reading and playing card games would need a brighter light. Furthermore, lighting should also bring attention to display pieces in the room, such as beautiful painting or feature wall. To fulfill all the needs above, light sources have to be placed at different locations and at varying intensities."

Part 2:
Light Layering
"Light layering is one of the techniques to create different moods and to perform different tasks. The four types of lighting to utilize when layering are GENERAL, TASK, ACCENT and AMBIENT lighting."

General Lighting provides an even distribution of light in a room. It should complement the amount of natural light in the room during the day, and compensate for the lack of natural light in the night. Usually, general lighting comprises of a ceiling-mounted light which is practical and sufficient for the eyes to function.

Task Lighting allows for an increase in productivity and concentration. It usually comes in the form of bright lamps that aid in activities like studying, working or reading.

Accent Lighting also known as decorative lighting, emphasizes beautiful aspects of the home. Usually, accent lighting takes the form of spotlights to highlight a feature wall or photo montage. It can also be a decorative lamp that brings out the home furnishing.

Ambient Lighting allows one to change the moods of a room to suit any occasion. Ambient lighting can transform the look and feel of a space by displaying with color intensity and shadows. This is especially useful as one does not need to change or modify the interior of the home.
